The Word is perfect. But the ears of men are not. We hear the Divine voice, and try to replicate it. But we can’t. We’re mortal. Speckled with agenda and self-interest. The best we can do is produce an echo. A distant, distortion of sound. Blurred, imperfect. Repeated with flagging confidence. Fading to nothing.

Ecos (Echoes), the third collaboration between directress Livija Pandur and Silence, was produced by Madrid’s Teatro Español. Based on Henry Naylor's same-titled drama, the play tells the story of Samira, a modern-day British jihadi bride in Syria, and Tillie, a Victorian bluestocking in Afghanistan. Although divided by a century, the lives of the two 17-year-olds bear striking similarities. Their experiences confirm the old adage: the more things change, the more they stay the same. Samira and Tillie are portrayed by actresses Nur Levi and Silvia Abascal.

The play features an original score by Silence. The latter consists of nine instrumentals and one song, Let Me Be Love, which features Benko.
