PETER RABBIT

Puppet show
Directed by Matjaž Pograjc
Produced by the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre
Opening night: October 14 2005

Based on one of the best-loved children's stories of all time, Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit, this heartwarming puppet show marks Silence's 3rd collaboration with director Matjaž Pograjc and the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre.

The score features ten songs (sung live by the actors/pupeteers) and four instrumentals. The score's rhythm section is quite particular. For two months, the duet rummaged through the house, testing the percussive qualities of everyday items – scissors, ball-point pens, cat food in a metallic container, squeaking toy ducklings, zippers, lighters, tea-caddies, toy drums ... – in order to come up with wacky, idiosyncratic beats. To secure the soundtrack's homogeneity, Silence used only two "proper" instruments: a slightly detuned upright piano and a toy xylophone. The result is a quirky collection of nursery rhymes. The soundtrack was written, produced, recorded, and mixed in Silence's private production facility, the Daily Girl studio, between August and October 2005.
